  1. GROUND AND FLIGHT COURSE.
The Aero Club Milano FTO organizes four courses each year for the Private Pilot Airplane License. The courses comprise of two parts: ground- and flight training. Normally the courses start mid-January, April, June and September. Dates can change. The students will be promptly advised for class dates and times, to allow for personal planning.

    • GROUND COURSE. The ground course (100h) is held in the classroom during evening hours (from 20:30 to 22:30) along the week: subjects include aviation technology, aviation engines, meteorology, air navigation, human performance and limitations, piloting techniques and others as required by the JAR-FCL. Learning aids (books, maps, etc.) are supplied by Aero Club Milano and are approved by Aviation Authorities.
    • FLIGHT COURSE. Flight training is performed in parallel with ground course under the responsibility of a certified Flight Instructor. Students already holding other flight licenses (helicopter, glider) are credited a certain number of flight hours. After 15h of flight training, after an internal exam, students are allowed to fly solo according to instructors advices. Training continues with cross-country flights, simulated emergencies, diversions on alternate airports, en-route planning, unusual attitudes and advanced piloting techniques until student has fully mastered the airplane and flight environment. The flight activity is scheduled together with the student: on the whole it takes about a year, varying from student to student, depending on attitude and frequency of attendence.
  2. FLIGHT ACTIVITY
    • FLIGHT ACTIVITY DURING TRAINING.
45h of flight of which at least 25h dual received with an instructor and at least 10h solo. Up to a credit of 10h flight time is given to candidates holding other flight licenses issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1 (helicopter, glider).
    • FLIGHT ACTIVITY FOR CURRENCY.
12h flight time per year on airplanes as per endorsements and ratings held.
    • INSUFFICIENT FLIGHT ACTIVITY.
Reintegration through proficiency check in FTO.
  3. FINAL EXAM.
As soon as required skill and minimum flight activity is reached, an internal progress test is performed. If exam is passed, candidate is required to pass an exam in front of an Aviation Authority commission to have license issued. Exam is both theory (multiple-choice questions form) and practical (cross-country flight).
  4. COSTS.
Average cost is around 11.000,- €: may vary depends on student's disposition and proficiency. Expense is strictly related to flight activity and may be diluted over the whole training timeframe: students are assigned an account on which costs will be charged to be covered by cash in advance.
  5. REQUIREMENTS.
Airplane pilots do not need to be Superman. All it takes is normal health, not to be afflicted by any cronic or disabling diseaese. Sight may be corrected by lenses. No criminal prosecution in act. Minimum age is 16.
  6. DOCUMENTS.
Since PPL(A) is a legal document, it is necessary to open a folder at ENAC (Italian Aviation Authority) including the following documents and certificates. Burocratic part is taken care of by Aero Club Milano under student's delegation and is part of services offered by the Club.
    • LIST OF DOCUMENTS FOR PPL
      • BIRTH CERTIFICATE (Self-Certification is also accepted).
      • LETTER OF CREDENTIALS FOR ITALIAN AIR FORCE MEDICAL INSTITUTES. Italian AF Medical Institutes issue first medical certificates only to candidates introduced by Aero Clubs and FTOs. Our Secretariat supplies such a letter for free as well as coordinates for payment of services offered by Institutes.
      • MEDICAL CERTIFICATE, II CLASS - Issued by IAF Medical Institute.
      • N. 1 PASSPORT PHOTO - Recent, possibly color.
      • FOR STUDENTS UNDER 18: Parent's or guardian's authorization.
  7. APPLICATION.
Aero Club Milano helps the candidate in handling the documents necessary to get the medical. Application is finalized and relevant fees are paid only after the medical certificate has been issued. Club's Board confirms application according to Statute. Applicant must pay association and course fee before beginning to attend lessons and training. The student will then be assigned a flight instructor, together with whom the training flights will be scheduled.
